Beaver Creek Plantation
Christmas Trees 2007
Billy Beaver and friends welcome you to Beaver Creek Plantation. It all begins November 17, 2007 with our annual blow-open-the-doors 10% off everything sale on the 17th and 18th. And we do mean everything! This a great opportunity to pick up that special handmade custom wreath crafted by the busy beavers right here at the plantation. Did you know they make wreaths up to 6 feet in diameter for your home or business? Those guys also ship that special "Dakota Wreath" (the one with the pheasant feathers on it) anywhere in the country. Talk about a unique gift from South Dakota!
The fun continues on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Thanksgiving with a whole lot of horsing around. Billy and friends make their first appearances from noon to 4 each day and on those days, in addition to our usual Beaver Creek transport vehicles, our old time Conestoga wagon pulled by the biggest most beautiful pair of oat burners you have ever seen will be available for rides to and from the majestic tree fields each day from 12 to 4. Billy and friends reappear on Dec 1 and 2 from noon to 4 each day and our final weekend is Dec 8 and 9. Our business hours are 10am to 4pm weekends and the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Betty Beaver's kitchen is open all the time with delicious goodies for everyone. Why not make lunch at the plantation part of your visit? She has free hot apple cider all the time for everyone. And by the way, try the pies. She makes them herself right here and are they ever good! Now here is the list of what you need to bring. #1. Warm clothes. #2. Your camera. #3. A smile. We provide all the rest (and sometimes even the smile). Saws, rides to the field, tree cleaning, tree wrap, and loading. Talk about service! More of those busy beavers. One of our specialties is kids, so bring the whole neighborhood. Fido - now that is another story. Audrey, the plantation dog, is always here for that great wet kiss and we are some of the world's greatest dog lovers, but not everybody loves your dog. If Fido insists on coming along (don't they look great in that picture?) please bring a leash. Thanks. A word about safety. This is a real, honest to gosh, working tree farm that we share with a variety of critters. Some have 4 legs and some have 2. They sometimes dig holes, eat part of trees, and make "deposits". So always watch your step. Thanks.
The trees look great this year. We have the following: Scotch pine - America's sweetheart. Medium needle length. The most popular tree in the country.
White pine - Long, soft needles. Talk about one you would like to hug!
Fraser Fir - The king of the Christmas Trees. Short, soft needles and oh, that fragrance.
Meyer Spruce - Looks just like a Colorado Spruce. Short, firm needles. Need something to hold up those heavy, antique ornaments? This is the one.
All our trees are available in sizes up to 15 feet. You can cut as much or little of a tree as you like. We charge by the foot and you pay only for what you take home. Our 2007 prices are: Scotch pine - $6.50/ft; White pine-$7.00/ft; Spruce and Fir-$12.00/ft. We always have some fresh cut trees from our fields. These are cut fresh each day we are open and are priced individually. And we should mention, if you want to select your tree in the field but would rather not wield the saw, those busy beavers are always ready to help and do the task for you. Just a word about the ecology involved in growing and using real Christmas trees. We think real trees not only make scents but also make sense. You see, these babies are RENEWABLE. Now that is an important concept compared to recyclable. Recycling takes energy. Renewable things require absolutely no energy to decompose naturally back to Mother earth. Those fake jobs are pure petroleum gobbling foreign made plastic that are all going to end up in a landfill sooner or later where they never will degrade. Of course, it takes petroleum to farm our real trees but only a miniscule amount compared to making plastic. So, if you are like us and concerned about the environment we suggest you get a completely renewable real Christmas tree.
Here's another neat thing about real trees: one acre of Christmas trees provides enough oxygen for 17 people to breathe every year-year in and year out. And the most oxygen production comes from the young, actively growing trees so keeping our production going keeps the world breathing as the trees use carbon dioxide and give off life sustaining oxygen. On average, we plant 3 trees for everyone cut so the cycle of life goes on and valuable resources are preserved when you use a real tree.
And now for all those who want to know why we have been growing trees for over 20 years? So we can be out standing in our field!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
